Fiocruz hosted the 4th Science Centre World Congress

The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation − Fiocruz − and the Museum of Life hosted the 4th Science Centre World Congress (4SCWC) on April 10 through 14, 2005, in Rio de Janeiro. The event approached themes related to the sustainability and the acting field of museums and science centres, with special emphasis on the role that these institutions play in fostering social inclusion and equity. The 4SCWC gathered 1144 participants from around 50 countries, the largest number since its first eddition.

 

In addition to the plenary sessions, a Parallel Session Programme was designed for participants to present their contributions. The parallel sessions addressed a wide range of topics, such as:
social inclusion and access to science centres and museums; models and perspectives for science centres; management and sustainability; science communication, science, and society; audience research in science centres and museums; exhibitions, communication approaches, and evaluation; museum education, formal and informal learning; science and art; and virtual technology.

 

Also, in parallel to the official congress programme, the Museum of Life hosted some co-related events, such as the 9th Red-POP (The Network for the Popularization of Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean) Biennial Meeting, the 3rd International Conference for Science Communicators and the EXPO- Interactive: Science for All.
