It was the first effort to bring togetther science centres professionals from all over the world to a meeting to discuss collaboration and to provide an opportunity for professional interchange and international networking.

The SCWC happens every threee years: the first congress was hold in Vantaa, Finland (1996), the second in Calcutta, India (1999), the third in Melbourne, Australia (2002), and the next one will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2005. The previous congress themes were, respectively: “Science Centres: Learning for Tomorrow”, “Catalysts for a Better Tomorrow”, and “Inspiring a New Generation”. The 4SCWCl discussed the latest thinking on themes relating to the science centre and museum field, with a special emphasis on our contribution to equity and social inclusion.
